Strategic Partnerships Management
Chris was part of the original team that created Syndicate 4000 in 2004, and a member of the Pembroke Managing Agency Board since the company was formed. He has worked in the Lloyd's market for over 30 years, initially as a Lloyd's broker and subsequently as an underwriter specialising in Financial Institutions for the last 22 years. His current role as the Strategic Partnership Director is to manage the development of lasting partnerships that are mutually beneficial, and to lead the service delivery from the Pembroke team to the customer. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute having qualified in 1999.
Justin worked for Ironshore from 2007 until May 2017. He was the Pembroke Managing Director and left to return to running his consultancy business which supports the Ironshore business. He has over 25 years' experience in the Lloyd's market working at Board level. He has worked for St. Paul at Lloyd’s, Heritage and Ironshore and has been closely involved in innovatively growing and developing these businesses. He was closely involved in formation of the first SPS in 2005 as well as the first SPS conversion to a full syndicate in 2014. He is a Chartered Accountant and a graduate of the University of Manchester.
David Costello has worked in various actuarial roles over the last 27 years. David is a member of the Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. He was initially appointed as a Chief Actuary in 2001 of a small Accident and Health Reinsurance Company in Dublin. In 2003 he moved to the Zurich Ireland entity as the company actuary responsible for pricing and reserving for the domestic Property and Casualty company. In 2006 he was appointed to Allianz Worldwide Care as Head of Actuarial Function, a role he held for the next 9 years. During this time David was also the Signing Actuary for Allianz Re (Dublin) Ltd., an entity that reinsured much of the Allianz business worldwide. David is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary and most recently was the CRO for a domestic Irish Property and Casualty company. He has spoken at the General Insurance Research Organization many times on Irish Issues and was a member of the Council of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland for four years.
Pierre Samson has been Group Chief Risk Officer of Ironshore since 2010. Mr. Samson has more than 25 years of P&C insurance/reinsurance industry experience in the fields of risk management, underwriting and actuarial. Prior to joining Ironshore, Mr. Samson was Risk Officer at IPCRe Limited (2008-2009); and President and COO at Assured Guaranty Re (2004-2005). From 1995 to 2004, Mr. Samson held various underwriting positions at ACE Bermuda (now Chubb). Finally, Mr. Samson was an actuarial consultant at Tillinghast, from 1987 to 1995. Mr Samson is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
Iain has worked in the International Insurance and Reinsurance industry since 2000 and has held CFO positions in the industry since 2007. He spent 7 years working with Aon Insurance Managers in both Bermuda and in Ireland before joining a startup operation in Dublin in 2007 where he worked with an executive team to build an entire insurance company infrastructure from the ground up including designing, testing and implementing bespoke systems. Prior to joining Ironshore Iain worked with Travelers as CFO for the Irish operations then joined Ironshore as CFO for its European Company operation (Ironshore Europe DAC) in 2012. In 2014 he was appointed as CFO for Ironshore’s International Division. Iain is a Chartered Accountant and trained with Deloitte, qualifying in 1997.
Nicola has 29 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s market. She has worked for Murray Lawrence and Partners Ltd, now Amlin, and Heritage Managing Agency Ltd, now Argo International Ltd, prior to joining Pembroke in 2010. While at Heritage, she was involved in forming the first new syndicate under Lloyds’ franchise guidelines. Her extensive experience in underwriting, syndicate development and syndicate operations make her a valuable asset to the Strategic Partnerships team. She was involved in Pembroke’s creation of the first SPS in 2005, as well as the first SPS conversion to a full syndicate in 2014. Nicola is a Chartered Insurer and an Associate of the Charted Insurance Institute.
Andrew has over 10 years’ experience in Exposure Management and Catastrophe Modelling. Andrew joined Pembroke in 2013, where as part of the Strategic Partnership team, oversaw the exposure management for Pembroke’s Syndicate 4000 and Acappella, when it was an SPS and when it converted to Syndicate 2014, as well as working most recently on the SPS Patria Re Syndicate 6125. Andrew worked with Syndicate 1301 while it operated under a turnkey arrangement. His team was heavily involved in the “Making it Happen” stage of the Lloyd’s approval process while the syndicate set up its own Managing Agency. Andrew brings relevant experience to better serve the needs of the team’s current and potential clients from working as a third party service producer, working under a turnkey arrangement, and assisting in creating a Managing Agency. He has proficient knowledge using RMS and AIR’s models, as well as SQL, Open Xposure, and various Office packages.
Lauren has over 10 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s market. She joined Pembroke in 2005 as a Professional Lines Underwriting Assistant. Following the growth and development within the Syndicate, she transitioned to her current role as Syndicate Manager of Pembroke Syndicate 4000 in 2010. Lauren actively manages the Lloyd’s business planning process for the Syndicate and works closely with the Underwriting teams and Management to ensure effective implementation of Underwriting Controls. Additionally, she manages the implementation of Outsourcing and of a quality assurance team for the Underwriting Administration, notably Lauren has gotten these to a BAU state. As part of the Strategic Partnership team, Lauren produces Lloyd’s business plans for SPS’s alongside the Syndicate 4000 Business Plan, allowing expertise to provide a communicated plan for development of further third party relationships.
Nathan currently is the Head of Governance for Pembroke Managing Agency Limited and Ironshore Agency Limited. He joins Pembroke from XL Catlin and has worked at Deloitte, Aon, Willis and RSA. Nathan has over nine years’ experience with auditing and accounting in financial services, bringing extensive regulatory and risk assurance knowledge to the Strategic Partnership team. His third party experience includes oversight and assurance for delegated authorities outsourced parties, from underwriting to claims handling and administration, and both GI and Speciality Consortium and facility arrangements in the London Market. Nathan is a CPA Australia (Certified Practicing Accountant).
